Hire a Pro Advice: Restore a Hardwood Floor
Get help finding a refinisher to restore a wood floor in your home.
By Gene and Katie Hamilton
"Floor Refinishing" is the listing in the Yellow Pages where you'll find flooring contractors who specialize in restoring and refinishing wood floors. Since restoring is a "lite" version of refinishing, a refinisher is your best bet, especially if repair work is needed. To give an estimate, a floor refinisher goes to the house to examine and measure the floor, and then provides a proposal based on the condition of the floor and its square footage. Ask to see examples of their work and make sure to find a location with a floor that looked similar to your own. A good job of restoring a floor should have the finish applied evenly and thoroughly to all areas of the floor including the corners, closet interiors and under radiators.
