For a simple shelf find a "Handyman Service" in the Yellow Pages or look for a bulletin board in a hardware store or home center with postings of business cards. Plan to call a handyman service when you have more than one job. Often they charge a minimum fee to cover the expense of traveling so make it worthwhile for you and the handyman. If you have to take off work to be home for the repair work, you'll benefit from having more than one job on your house "to do" list checked off.
For a large set of shelving consider a closet design service which will design the shelving and install it. This is the best bet for a good design that's customized to your needs. Go to a search engine like Bing, Google or Yahoo and type "closet design in (your city)" in the search box.
