Reduce harmful contaminants and get a better tasting supply of drinking water at the faucet by installing a drinking water filtration system. Plumbed-in filtration systems designed to fit under a cabinet are easy to install. They attach to the hot and cold water lines, and a faucet spout mounts above it in the soap dispenser or sprayer opening in the sink.
A handyman will charge $224 to install a 3M Filtrete system, which includes the labor and material. You can buy the unit for $85 and install it and save 62 percent. To install, you assemble the tubing, gasket and spout of the faucet, and then fasten the filter head assembly on the interior of the cabinet wall. Next, you adapt the water supply lines and attach the hoses. The job is complete when you insert the filter, turn on the water to test for leaks and activate the filter. Before you begin, you have to turn off the water at the shut-off valve and remove everything out of the cabinet so there’s room to move around and work. For tools, you’ll need adjustable wrenches, a Phillips head screwdriver and drill; also have rags and a bucket handy to catch any drips.
DIY Hassle Alert
The challenge here depends on the size of the cabinet you're working in and your agility to move around.
