Use the power of the sun to light up your front or back door entrance and provide security and safety in an earth-friendly way. The new solar entry light uses four LED lights and is powered by the sun and three (NiMH) rechargeable batteries that have an estimated life of two years. It turns on and off automatically as the sun rises and sets, and it can provide up to 12 continuous hours of light output. That, of course, depends on the amount of sunlight the solar panel receives.

The unit is composed of two parts: the light unit that contains the high efficiency light and batteries and a separate solar panel. The light attaches to the door casing, with the screws provided by the manufacturer. The solar panel can be mounted on the light or moved up to 15 feet from the light so it can be placed in the most efficient location to capture the sunlight.

This is a great job for the first-time handy homeowner since the light is self-contained and does not have to be wired into the electrical system. All you need is a screwdriver to attach it to the doorframe. You can purchase the light for $50 or have a handyman or electrician install the light for $135. That's a 63 precent saving for less than an hour of your time.
