The average price to Install Drapery Hardware noted above is cost data to compare a contractor’s estimate with doing it yourself.

Find the average cost to install drapery hardware yourself compared with hiring a carpenter.

When you’re creating a window treatment for a room, the fabric of the drapery and the hardware it hangs on should work together to achieve the look you want. Today you’ll find stylish hardware to enhance whatever fabric you choose. For a primer on the hardware styles available, go to kirsch.com, a manufacturer’s website. Whether you choose a basic curtain rod or a more versatile traverse rod designed for heavy fabrics, there’s hardware in metal, wood, and painted finishes. Stylish decorative poles, ring slides, finials, and medallions let you create a custom look.

To install a traverse rod designed for light to medium weight draperies up to 180 inches wide, a carpenter will charge $131, which includes the rod and the labor to hang it. It does not include the drapery. You can buy and install the rod for $75, saving 42 percent, assuming you have basic carpentry tools such as a measuring tape, stud finder, screwdriver, electric drill, and carpenter’s level. You’ll also need a ladder.

In general, the job involves carefully measuring the window for the placement of the brackets and center mount, which are fastened on the wall. Then the rods are secured and the draperies are hung on the hardware. Kirsch has measuring advice for decorative drapery hardware and downloadable PDF files of all their installation instructions – good reading material to learn exactly what’s involved.

Now you know the average cost to install drapery hardware, which includes the labor and material, and what’s involved, so you can decide to do it yourself or hire a contractor.
