What’s the cost to refinish a sink? The contractor cost to refinish a sink is $284 or you do it yourself for $85.

If you have an old sink in need of a facelift, and if it’s in a lightly used bathroom, it’s a good candidate for DIY refinishing. You can paint a protective coating on the surface with a two-part epoxy acrylic that comes in a tub and tile refinishing kit. Based on our experience, we don’t recommend this in a bathroom with heavy daily use or in a kitchen sink.

The alternative is to hire a tub and sink resurface service, which will charge $284 to refinish a pedestal sink. You can buy the refinishing kit for $85, the sink refinishing cost, and do it yourself, saving 70 percent.

The time spent preparing the surface before the application is key to whether it’s a success or failure. It’s important to clean not only the sink but the floor and walls surrounding it as well so dust or dirt can’t mar the finish. Remove any caulk and repair chipped and dented areas with a patching compound. Then sand the surface with wet/dry sandpaper to remove all residue so the epoxy has a flawless surface to bond to.

Follow the kit directions to mix the two parts of epoxy (activator and base) together. Apply two coatings with a fine bristle varnish brush, allowing it to dry at least one hour between applications. As the paint dries, its self-leveling properties will eliminate any bubbles.
