How much does it cost to install a LED light strip? The average cost to install a LED light strip yourself is $78 compared with hiring a handyman for $125.

Bring instant light to an out-of-the-way dark space with a LED light strip on a tape. It’s ideal for inside a closet, under a kitchen or office cabinet, or in a curio cabinet. The Connexx Tape Light consists of connectible LED light strips with an on/off switch and transformer outlet plug with adhesive strips for mounting. These energy misers use less than half a watt per strip and are sold in kits designed for a do-it-yourselfer to install.

To install LED light strips under a large kitchen cabinet, you’ll need a Start Up Kit with a transformer and strips and an Add On Kit with light strips and installation wire, a total cost of $78. Depending on how you space the strips, you can cover about 10 linear feet.

A handyman will charge $125 for the kits and installation, but since it’s such a small job you may have trouble finding someone. By doing it yourself you’ll save 38 percent. The units have adhesive pads on the back for fast placement and the wiring attaches to the strips with snap-in place covers. The only tool you need to cut the wire to size is a pair of household scissors or a wire cutter.
